For the last couple of years, I’ve had one destination in mind for my education/career–Radiation Therapy. I’ve talked about it here a couple of times(you may remember). And since then I’ve been retaking classes that I have a C  or below in  to improve my GPA  and better my chances of getting  into the highly competitive Radiation Therapy program at my school. After applying twice and failing to get into the clinical portion of a program, I am not ready to give up, but I am starting to look at other options. The main one being teaching. I’ve always had a gift and a knack for teaching and most importantly I’ve always enjoyed it. I’ve always thought of it as an option, but after one more rejection from the Radiation program, it may get bumped to #1 priority. Getting certifications and the minimum requirements for teaching elementary education will cost me 2 more years of school, but that is nothing! I could’ve done that in the time  I’ve wasted I may have wasted re-taking classes for the Radiation program.

I will know if I get into this year’s radiation program in August. In just a couple of months, I may finally be on the right track for my education/career. Sheesh. Took me long enough, right?!

When finals are over…

I’m going to do the following. (In no order)

*read all the comics – I haven’t read a comic in a month or so. Sad, I know. I bought $40 in “catch up” comics last week. Can’t wait to read them!

*game- Everyone, EVERYONE, has been yapping about Skyrim. I’m jealous and I really want to play. Picking it up for my xbox when I finish the last final!

*finish a craft project-I have started tons of knitting (and crochet!) projects and have finished none.

*sleep!

strips

You know those new Sally Hansen Salon nail polish strips? I tried them out this weekend. They’re pretty neat and are supposed to last up to ten days. You place a strip on your nail, smooth it out, cut the excess and tada! Your nails are done! I wish it was that simple. I had a hard time centering the strip and an even harder time getting it to stick to my nail. By the 8th nail, I became a pro. So, I have 2 really good looking nails and 8 meh ones.

The problems I had with it, the design (blegh!) and being a noob at applying it, were all my fault. So, I’m going to try it again. I’m sure now that I know what I’m doing, they’ll turn out better.

Classes started yesterday. So far, so good. Minus the annoying know it all in one of my classes today. I thought I’d feel like a grandma, going back to school at 28. I thought most of my classmates would be fresh out of high school going into radiology, but nah. Most are doing a career change and are my age or older. I may start looking for a very part time job. Nannying or waiting tables seem to be my best bet since they’re flexible. I need flexibility with roller derby. So many events, practice, and eventually bouts to work around. And school.

I’m exploring my “new” neighborhood. I only lived in this area for about 10 months total in my life. And when I did live here I always ventured to midtown to do all of my shopping, entertainment, and eating. Not anymore! I realize there’s a lot more to the Bartlett/Raleigh area than I thought. Yesterday, after a walk at a park nearby, I stopped at Yolo Frozen Yogurt, (YoLo FroYo). Yolo is a local frozen yogurt and Italian gelato shop. It’s not your regular yogurt shop. You get to prepare your own yogurt! First you pick your yogurt. There’s a wall of about 10 different yogurt flavors. I got birthday cake and my sister chose tropical sorbet.

Then it’s my favorite part. Picking out toppings! They had a ton of toppings to choose from. Including fresh fruit and candy/cookies from local businesses.

so much to choose from!

I had a sweet tooth so I went for Reeses Pieces, some brownie pieces, and chopped peanuts to top it off. My sister stuck with fruity stuff. I have yet to try their gelato, but I’m sure I will. I don’t know if it’s a blessing or a curse that it’s less than a mile from my house. ^_^ If you live in Memphis or ever find yourself in Memphis, take a visit to one of the any Yolo Froyo locations.

coffee

This week I was lucky enough to have Devynn , my old flat mate from Amsterdam , come visit! She and her friend Emily were taking road trip from Michigan to Texas and guess who’s right smack dab in the middle? ME! So they stopped to visit for 2 days. It was nice seeing Devynn again and meeting her bff Detroit Emily who I’ve ALWAYS heard about in stories, but never had the chance to meet. Didn’t get to show them around, but they got to see/experience Memphis Bar-B-Que and our famous Beale St, which they definitely left an impression on. And I hope it made an impression on them. ^_^

Oh and guess what else happened this week? I got a job at the pre-school! I interviewed and applied for the pre-k teacher position, but was offered the 2-year old class. Not really my preferred age group, but hey! Unemployed, broke, girls that are saving for moving out and holidays and are in no position to be choosey. I start as soon as I get my fingerprints and background checks finished, which will probably be this week sometime. I’m excited about having something to fill my days and wallet with! I’m a little bit worried about how I will handle the stress of school (starts at the end of the month!) and an 8-5 every week day job…

Ah well. I’ll tackle that when it comes up.
