It’s hump day!

That commercial never gets old. NEVER! I die every single time it comes on!

Yep, it’s hump day AND it’s the day I remember I have a blog! Oh, hey there! it’s not that I’ve forgotten about you. I’ve just been busy. The bf’s brother came into town for a couple of days and we went to a NASCAR race. Yep. Forreal. I’ll tell you all about it. Spoiler alert-It was actually fun! I’ve also been working a lot and for the last couple of days, I’ve been braiding my hair. It usually doesn’t take me this long to braid. Maybe 12 hours split over two days. But this time I’ve made them pretty small and I’ve had activities that have forced me out of the house. I have about 3 sections left in the back. *sigh* I HOPE to be done today? Hope.

I just finished Neil Gaiman’s latest book, The Ocean at the End of the Lane. It’s a short read and filled with magic, fantasy, and a bit of horror. Enchanting! I couldn’t put it down! 4/5 stars to you Mr. Gaiman.  Currently reading Octavia Butler’s sci fi, “Wild Seed”. My first sci-fi novel. My online book club is reading it this month and discussing it in a couple of days. Which means I should probably finish it!

Bah! I miss having a job! I miss the money and being busy. But it’s kind of impossible between school and derby. My schedule is crazy! Hopefully I can consolidate my spring schedule to only a couple of days so I can get a part time job somewhere. I have been doing a little babysitting and that’s been enough for things I need. But with Christmas coming up…I dunno!

I skated in a 5k on Saturday. My time was 22:30 or something around there. It was tough! I’m used to skating more miles than that (10miles), but this one had tons of hills to climb. My leg muscles definitely got a workout. Speaking of 5k’s, today I start week 4 of couch to 5k. I’m halfway there!

Even though I’ve been busy with school, I’ve found time to read for pleasure. I’ve read

Tina Fey’s, Bossypants. 5/5 stars! A must read for anyone who is a fan of Tina and her humor. I found myself laughing out loud a dozen of times.

The Hunger Games
I read this book over the weekend. It captivated me during the first chapter and had me in that position until I finished the book. Full of action and love(not a major part, but I’m sure it will take a bigger role in the other books), I recommend this book to anyone! I started reading the second book in the series yesterday.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

the new 52, books, and linkies from an ex-pinkie

Yesterday, DC released it’s first comic in the new 52 series, Justice League #1. The new 52 is DC’s reboot of 52 of their titles. 52 comics will all go back to number one. If you’ve never read comics and wanted to get into them, now is the perfect time. No need to feel overwhelmed about catching up. Just start at the beginning with everyone else. Out of the 52 comics getting the reboot, I’m most excited about Justice League, Justice League Dark, Batman, Batman:Dark Knight, and Wonder Woman. I’m also going to try comics I’m not familiar with every now and then. Things like I, Vampire and Nightwing. Notice I didn’t have any Green Lantern titles. I got my fill of Lantern when I read Blackest Night and Brightest Day. This is going to be a pricey collection. I’m getting the number 1’s in print and the rest I’m going to get digitally.I actually prefer actual comics, but I rarely re-read them and I just have a bunch of issues everywhere! Trying to cut down on clutter. If Justice League #1 is any indication of what’s to come, we are in for a treat! I loved it and can’t wait for the next issue.

I’ve been reading so much since I got my Kindle. I finished “Lost at the Con” by Bryan Young last week. I saw Michelle’s review of it and I just had to read it. Described as “a quick, summer read involving drunks and nerds, this is a must”, I knew it was just for me. And it was. I found myself laughing out loud a couple of times during the book.

I’m currently reading Slaughter House Five- I’ve been wanting to read this book for years, but never got around to it. Finally, started reading it this weekend. Only to be captivated by another book, The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making (Fairyland, #1). I’m sorry Slaughterhouse Five. I’ll come back to you, I promise. But for now I’m lost in Fairyland.

When this blog was located at , I had an every now and then feature called “A linkie from Pinkie“. I’m not Pinkie anymore, but I do want to share linkies with you!

JIM AND SEAN’S PODCAST OF FUN– My friend’s Jim and Sean’s new podcast. I t hink it’s pretty funny, maybe you will too.

Soph Learns To Cook– Ok, this is self promotion. My cooking blog. Check out the white bean hash I made this weekend!

Awkward Black Girl– This is a great web series about an awkward black girl. It’s hilarious. I’ve watched the series about 4 times and I quote it like once a day. Watch it. Even if you’re not an awkward black girl, I’m sure you can relate!

I don’t usually  make new years resolution. I usually make the similar sort of resolutions on my birthday. I do however make a goal. Haha, I’m acting as if I’ve done this goal thing for years. I only started last year. The goal is to read 50 books in the new year. Last year I was on a roll for the first few months, then I stopped. Though my reading slowed down, I still read a ton! I’m going to push myself this year to do it again! I use GoodReads to keep a count of my books. Also for recommendations. Add me if you have an account there

I was going to wait until I got my brand new shiny computer to post, but Apple is taking forever to send it. Still love you though, Apple (hopefully that love will get them to send it quicker). I have noticed that without my computer, I’m a lot more open to doing other things besides playing Warcraft and stalking forums. I’ve been reading a lot more. I have replaced WoW with reading and listening to some chill music. It’s pretty relaxing and I think I’ll continue the habit when I get my computer. Or at least i’ll try. I’ve been reading “The Brief Wondrous Love of Oscar Wao”. It’s a novel about an overweight ghetto nerd who dreams of becoming the Dominican J. R. R. Tolkien. It’s hilarious and heart warming. I love it and am almost done with it. I’m one of those people that reads several books at once. So, I also just started re-reading “Catcher in the Rye”. I read it years ago and found myself crushing on Holden Caulfield. A friend and I were talking about the book and she told me she hated Holden! It inspired me to re-read it and maybe fall in love again with Holden. Hehe. She’s going to re-read it afterwards and maybe her judgement of Holden will change. I just picked up “The Alchemist”. Everyone always talks about how great it is. I’m not usually a fan of “omg this book will change your life” books, but I am giving it a chance.

Without my computer I also find myself going out far too much! On days where I would usually just stay in and play WoW or Skype with friends, I now go out dancing until the wee hours of the night! Yea, it’s fun! But not for my wallet or my liver. :/
